When a group of people meet and recognize themselves in their social condition and combine their actions and creativity to organize their efforts toward a common goal, they create a “WE.”

Can a simple pronoun represent the idea of a research project involving three universities?

👉WE PROPOSE starts from a collective construction of meanings: every week, a new word will help us reveal the collective vision of our project.
Because words are not just words.

PROcessi, POlitiche e Reti a Sostegno delle donne che riEntrano in Tunisia e Marocco (Processes, Policies, and Networks Supporting Women Returning to Tunisia and Morocco) is the acronym that underpins our project.

👉WE PROPOSE does not only want to analyze, but also to propose alternatives to policies that address the issue of female migration, including in return processes.

Le parole non sono parole ma sottendono intenzioni.

The IOM defines migration as “the movement of people from their usual place of residence, either across an international border or within a country.”
But what images come to mind when we think about migration? And how are women’s migrations actually represented?

👉WE PROPOSE explores female migration between Italy, Morocco, and Tunisia and, through qualitative field research, aims to open up a space for storytelling on these issues, starting with encounters with the women directly involved.

The return of people from Europe to their country of origin is very often accompanied by the idea of a failure of the “migration project.”

But is this really the case? What emotions, experiences, and choices underlie the idea of returning after a period spent in a third country? What factors influence these choices when it is women who are returning?

👉WE PROPOSE explores the return of women who, after a period in Italy, return to their countries of origin: Morocco and Tunisia. The stories of the women we meet during the project will define their idea of return, thus contributing to a broader analysis of the category of return in the migration process.

Words are not just words, but reflect life paths.

Perchè parliamo di femminismo al plurale? Quali sono i movimenti che nei secoli hanno contribuito ad un processo di autodeterminazione e riflessioni sistemiche sui sistemi di oppressione che pesano ancora oggi sui corpi e sulle soggettività delle donne?

Why do we talk about feminism in the plural? Which movements have contributed over the centuries to a process of self-determination and systemic reflection on the systems of oppression that still weigh heavily on women’s bodies and subjectivities today?👉WE-PROPOSE mira a creare un dialogo tra i vari femminismi lungo le sponde della regione EU-MENA.

Words are not just words, but reflect life paths.

Why do we talk about feminism in the plural? Which movements have contributed over the centuries to a process of self-determination and systemic reflection on the systems of oppression that still weigh heavily on women’s bodies and subjectivities today?

👉WE PROPOSE reflects on what empowerment means for women returning to Morocco and Tunisia and what influences these processes and how, starting from a collection of their stories and their perceptions of the socio-economic contexts of departure, arrival, and return.

Words are not just words, they tell stories

According to feminism, access to economic and technical tools and the opportunity to acquire the know-how needed to start a business are considered key to women’s emancipation and empowerment.

But what are the paths, limitations, and possibilities experienced by women entrepreneurs in Morocco and Tunisia?
👉WE PROPOSE aims to analyze the models in Morocco and Tunisia that facilitate or limit the start-up of businesses by women returning after a period in Italy, and to contribute to the development of initiatives in these territories that view female entrepreneurship as a tool for individual and collective empowerment.

Words are not words.

Women who return home often bring with them new ideas, skills, and experiences that help improve the quality of life for others in their countries of origin.

👉WE PROPOSE investigates the life trajectories of women from Morocco and Tunisia who, after spending time in Italy, decide to return home.

Words are not words, but they tell stories.

Support networks for women that facilitate the integration of female agency and gender equality have become particularly active in countries in the EU-MENA region.

Words are not words, but imply visions.

👉 The WE-PROPOSE project focuses on the crucial role of civil society in supporting the reintegration of migrant women returning to their countries of origin. By mapping the associations and networks that assist migrant women in Italy, Tunisia, and Morocco, the project analyzes how these entities contribute to the various stages of the return and reintegration process.

Civil society is not just a concept; it is a force that arises from below to change our visions and interests.

👉WE PROPOSE focuses on pro-social association networks, particularly networks of groups working together to promote and support, at a political and humanitarian level, the return migration of migrant women, supporting them in areas related to social integration, the labor market, and access to rights.

Words are not words, but imply visions.

🌍 Qualitative, or “non-standard,” research focuses on understanding how people see and interpret their experiences, exploring the meanings they give to their lives.
In the 👉 WE PROPOSE project, we study these dynamics through interviews with 30 women of Moroccan and Tunisian origin living in Sicily and Emilia-Romagna and 20 women who have returned to Tunisia and Morocco. The goal? To understand the deeper meaning of returning for these women and how this intertwines with their identities and life stories. 💬🌿

Words are not words, but they convey visions.

Fieldwork is the heart of research that collects data directly in the field, where phenomena occur in their natural or social context.
👉 WE PROPOSE focuses on “fieldwork”: data collection, interviews, and focus groups are the research activities we are developing for the analysis phase.
🔍 Every detail matters, because every insight gathered is a step towards deeper knowledge!
